Imagine trying to build something so great that by the time it’s ready for applause, the builder is incapable of enjoying his fame and acclaim. Trust me, you do not want to be that person. Giving off oneself for the sake of others is commendable and is even the platform of greatness but one must not lose him or herself in the process. I don’t believe the gift should be a curse as well. I believe that we can have it all, that you can feel great inside and look great outside to truly be happy. I strongly believe that what is within creates the world around or at least how we perceive life and our environment.
As a freelance artist or entrepreneur in general, it is very typical for you to throw yourself entirely into your business; you might invest so much into building your brand, your business and your skill, that you lose your self in the process. CVL Beauty is not your typical beauty brand that only wants you to look good, we want you to be intentional about growing internally (inner beauty) as well. We want to see you flourish in body, soul and spirit.
READING – I have found reading to be one major stress-reliever. This is because reading is one way to calm and upgrade yourself. No matter what sphere of life you’re in, its best to read consistently at least 10 minutes a day. The content you read matters greatly – the more powerful the author, the more power you are imbibing into your soul. Read books in areas where you lack knowledge but one book that has helped me most is the Bible. It’s truly a fountain of wisdom and source of direction in life and so I recommend it to all. Other books I will recommend are – Like a virgin ( Richard Branson), The Power of Now (Eckhart Tolle), The Path made clear ( Oprah Winfrey), As a man thinketh ( James Allen).

BE INTENTIONAL ABOUT YOU AND YOUR CIRCLE – I am sure you have noticed that, there is a lot of discussion these days about mental health. This is because people lack peace in general. Apart from reading wholesome and insightful books, the next best thing to do is to pay attention to your relationships – with yourself and with other people. Pay attention to your intentions, thoughts and conversations with yourself. Be kind to yourself and try not to do things you will regret. Spend time away from distractions and people to simply sit with yourself and be honest with yourself. Get to know who you are. This is extremely important because when you know who you are, you will not want to fit in everywhere. In this industry, a lot of people try to please everyone and end up disappointing themselves in the process.
When you know who you are, you are able to build a value system and moral compass within which you operate. It is extremely important to do this as this helps build integrity and character and you will start to truly appreciate, celebrate and love yourself when you go through each day with all the craziness life throws at you, knowing in your soul that you built integrity and character in the role you have been assigned to in life.
Yes, show everyone love and kindness, but please, get rid of toxic people and be more discerning and attentive to people around you. Get rid of that gossiping ( time wasting), manipulative and unsupportive boy or girlfriend, or quarrelsome parent / family member. You can’t give to others what you don’t have so please protect your peace first and draw boundaries for people. Do not assume people know better.
We are all always planting seeds with our words. If you are around people who subtly or aggressively put you down regularly, it will eventually start to manifest. If you are around people who are always gossiping, scheming and complaining, they are time wasters and will not adding any value in your life. Regardless of the role the person plays in your life, do not settle for less. You have one life to live. Do not spend it with toxic people around you.
SKIN AND BODY CARE Make-up is good tool to enhance our beauty but there’s only so much it can do. Note the word enhance. Don’t destroy your beauty with bad eating habits or lethargy – be as beautiful as you can be naturally. I believe in simplifying healthy living. Just by doing enjoyable exercises everyday and doing your best to eat healthy, your body will be fine. Eating healthy doesn’t mean eating less, it means incorporating a balanced diet. Find the foods (fruits) you love and eat those in healthy proportions. This is a definite way to ensure your make up is only an add-on and not the main source of your self-confidence.
Drink a lot of water. It helps maintain a healthy heart rate and blood pressure. You need adequate fluid to produce lymph, an important bodily fluid and component of the immune system. All systems of the body work better in a water-rich environment. Also drink water to stay hydrated and looking fresh and healthy from within ( something makeup cannot do )

SLEEEEP – Remember the days a bell was rang for siesta in Secondary School? 🙁 I will do anything again, to have mandatory siesta. What a gift that was.
Most of us can not afford the luxury of siesta now, but we can ensure that we have enough time to rest. ( minimum of 6hrs). Not resting or sleeping is rather a reflection of an imbalanced life. A lot of people are not able to sleep because they’re anxious, stressed and depressed about things that they most likely cannot control or sort out themselves or because they get caught up endlessly scrolling till its 5am. Do not compare yourself with anyone. Know your goals and work towards them daily and honestly. Please do not give yourself unnecessary pressure. No one truly cares because everyone has a life wildly complicated in one aspect or another.
What I do with the scrolling aspect is, to discipline myself- I lock my phone away in another room or in my car, so that I am able to sleep peacefully, without any notifications. It allows me enough time to reflect on the day, pray , read and have uninterrupted hours of sleep. You know lack of sleep can make you grumpy and foggy. You may not know what it can do to your life, memory, health, looks, and even ability to lose weight. So please make resting and sleeping a priority.
